Breastfeeding Questions? We Have the Answers
August Is National Breastfeeding Month – Let’s Talk About Feeding Your Baby
August marks National Breastfeeding Month, a time to recognize the many benefits of breast milk and to support all parents with their newborn’s feeding journeys. At Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, we believe this month is not just about celebrating breastfeeding – it’s about honoring every way families choose to nourish their babies.
Bringing a child into the world is a beautiful, emotional, and often unpredictable ride. Whether you’re a first-time parent or adding to your growing family, feeding your baby can be one of the most intimate and challenging parts of the journey.
Feeding Realities: Every Journey Is Unique
According to a What to Expect® survey, nearly 60% of moms say nursing is harder than they expected, and 12% say they tried but couldn’t breastfeed. Another study published by the National Institutes of Health found that 70% of mothers experienced difficulties in the first month – ranging from cracked nipples and pain to fatigue and concerns about milk supply.
But here’s the truth: feeding your baby is a deeply personal experience, and there’s no single way it’s supposed to look or feel. Whether it comes naturally, brings unexpected challenges, or evolves over time – you’re doing something incredibly important, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Breast Milk Offers Many Benefits
Breast milk provides essential nutrients and antibodies that help babies grow healthy and strong, especially in their first year. It can reduce the risk of infections, support brain development, and promote bonding between parent and child.
But we also know that every feeding journey is different. You may choose to breastfeed, pump, supplement with formula, or use formula exclusively – what matters most are a fed baby and a supported parent.
