Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Shares its 2023 Community Benefit Report
August 6, 2024
Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) today published its community benefit and economic impact report for the 2023 calendar year. The report details the many ways the hospital positively contributes to the Hartsville area and spotlights how it continues to support the health and well-being of those who live and work in the region.
“This report provides a snapshot of the powerful, positive impact Carolina Pines has, not just on our patients but on our surrounding communities,” said Bill Little, CEO of CPRMC. “Yes, we provide excellent compassionate care to the patients we treat, as illustrated by our most recent “A” rating from Leapfrog, one of the premier assessors of hospital quality and safety. But our impact, as this report details, extends well beyond the walls of our buildings and reflects the dedication and caring mission of our remarkable team of providers, employees, partners, and volunteers.”
Carolina Pine’s 2023 community benefit report summarizes the hospital’s ongoing efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of its community by welcoming new providers, expanding service lines and continually investing in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2023, CPPRMC added six providers to its medical group and more than 60 affiliated locum and tele-providers, and made nearly $1.3 million in capital improvements, including a surgical-intuitive DaVinci robot, new fire alarm system, vital signs monitor, anesthesia machines, and an UltraClean sonic washer, among other things.
Additionally, Carolina Pines provided more than $31 million in health services to those in need, demonstrating the hospital’s continued commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
CPRMC also strives to create an environment where providers want to practice, and employees want to work. In 2023, the hospital distributed more than $47.5 million in salaries, wages, and benefits for its approximately 720 employees, and contributed approximately $110,000 in professional development and tuition assistance to enhance its employees’ opportunities to learn and improve the care they provide their patients.
The report shares several examples of how Carolina Pines is continually seeking ways to make a positive impact in the communities it serves, extending far beyond the physical walls of its facilities. Last year, the organization paid more than $8 million in provider, payroll, property, and sales taxes, displaying its commitment to fiscal responsibility that helps boost the area’s economic well-being. The hospital is also honored to have continued its support of local activities and organizations that contribute to the community, including the American Heart Association, Black Creek Arts Council, Boys & Girls Club, Butler Heritage Foundation, Chesterfield County Schools, Child and Family Resource, City of Hartsville, Coker University, Cypress Adventure, Darlington County Humane Society, Darlington County Schools, Gospel in the Park Series, Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, Hartsville Country Club, Hartsville Police Department, Hartsville YMCA, Kalmia Gardens, PDRTA, Pee Dee Coalition, Pee Dee FCA, Pee Dee Land Trust, SC Governor's School, Trent Hill Center, and Waymaker Offroad Wheelchairs.
“This area is home to many of the team members who come to work each day at Carolina Pines to treat the friends, family, and neighbors who come through our doors,” added Little. “As an organization entrusted with the health and well-being of others, we are an integral part of the broader community and work tirelessly to continue to earn its support through the care we provide, the taxes we pay, the local organizations we support, and much more.”
