Healthcare Hero- Kim McCoy
Kim McCoy, Ultrasound Technologist
1. What is your role at Carolina Pines?
I am the lead ultrasound technologist at CPRMC. I have a BS in Biology from Francis Marion University. I received my ultrasound degree from Midlands Technical College. I am a registered ARDMS sonographer.
2. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Anything outdoors. Boating, hiking, camping, going to the beach, snowboarding, riding horses. You name it, if it's outside, I'm there.
3. What is one thing you cannot live without and why?
Laughter. I love seeing people smile and laugh. Whether it's me making someone laugh or someone else, it's truly the best medicine. Life is way too precious to not love and enjoy every bit of it.
4. Do you have a favorite TV show or movie that you enjoy?
Any renovation or food show. HGTV and Food Network are my guilty pleasures. Unfortunately, they are also harmful to my bank account because they trigger a domino effect renovation process in my house and tailgate style smorgasbord fun filled gatherings.
5. What is the best part about working at CPRMC?
I love the small town hospital feel. People here are so friendly and caring. You can walk to go get lunch and another employee stops you and asks about your family or yourself. I think the family style atmosphere here plays into how we care for our patients. Most of the time, patients are actually an employee's family member. It's truly a community hospital. It feels like family and home to me.
6. Can you share something about yourself that would surprise people?
I'm a little OCD. Mainly with colors and where things belong. I separate my candy by color. My clothes in my closet look like a color wheel. When I set up a sterile tray it has to be placed a certain way, or I'm all messed up. It makes my mind happy to flow from color to color and know exactly where things are.
7. When are you happiest?
I'm happiest when I'm with my son and family. I've only been a mom for a couple of years, but I can't imagine a day without him. He is the absolute best, most precious part of my world.
