CPRMC Earns Sixth ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from Leapfrog Group
December 16, 2024
Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit group that sets standards for excellence in patient safety and care. Carolina Pines is one of only 21 hospitals in South Carolina to earn an “A” grade during Leapfrog’s Fall 2024 assessments, which were announced on November 15.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Only 32% of the approximately 3,000 hospitals reviewed nationwide earn Leapfrog’s “A” grade. The Fall 2024 A grade marks Carolina Pines’ sixth consecutive A grade from The Leapfrog Group, earning the hospital Leapfrog’s elite “Straight A” designation.
“We love serving our community and take great pride in providing expert, compassionate care to every patient we see,” said Bill Little, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “Great care starts with creating and maintaining the safest environment possible to not only treat the sick but prevent any inadvertent harm. To achieve six consecutive ‘A grades’ from Leapfrog demonstrates our hospital’s incredible commitment to safety. These Leapfrog grades are meant to guide patients in making their care decisions, and we hope our consistent top marks provide added comfort to patients who choose Carolina Pines for their healthcare needs.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Carolina Pines, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
The latest Leapfrog Group recognition follows several recent accolades received by Carolina Pines over the past year. In August, Carolina Pines earned ScionHealth’s “Platinum Award,” the highest honor presented as part of the 92-hospital company’s National Quality Strategy. In July, Carolina Pines CEO, Bill Little was named to the Becker’s 2024 listing of “Community Hospital CEOs to Know.” In October, Carolina Pines CNO, Christy Moody, was also recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of its “CNOs to Know.” In May, the hospital earned the A grade in Leapfrog’s Spring 2024 ratings. In April, Carolina Pines’ employed Medical Practice again attained recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home from the National Center for Quality Assurance, and in December, CPRMC was named a Top General Hospital by Leapfrog, one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive (only 35 hospitals across the country attained the honor).
