Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Welcomes Shannon Shepherd, Certified Nurse Midwife
April 4, 2024

Carolina Pines Medical Group recently added Shannon Shepherd, Certified Nurse Midwife, to its Women’s Care practice. Shepherd brings more than twenty-four years of women’s care experience to the practice, including the past 19 as a midwife.
Shepherd has practiced nursing at hospitals and clinics from Florida to Alaska and estimates that she has helped deliver approximately 2,500 babies, including nearly 700 in the past five years. She says she was inspired to enter the field of midwifery because of her less-than-optimal experience during the birth of her child.
“I felt my providers didn't fully hear my concerns, and because of that, the delivery of my first child was more challenging,” she recalled. “I believed I could take a more active role in really listening to my patients to improve their experiences, and today, I feel confident I do.”
She says she prioritizes building trusting relationships with her patients, taking the time to listen to their concerns and providing personalized care that aligns with their values. She emphasizes the normalcy of childbirth for most women while also stressing the importance of self-care. Her approach to healthcare combines empathy and understanding of the complexities of women's health with humor and compassion.
“I truly love what I do, and I hope that shines through to my patients with my attitude,” she said.
Shepherd attained her Master of Science in Nursing, Certified Nurse Midwife, and Family Nurse Practitioner at Neil Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University, Atlanta, GA. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA.
At Carolina Pines Medical Group, she specializes in contraceptive management, family planning, gynecological care, menopausal care, obstetrics and maternity care, prenatal care, and well-woman visits.
“Shannon brings a wealth of experience, compassion and skill to our Women’s Care team at Carolina Pines Medical Group,” said Bill Little, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “We are excited to expand and strengthen our Women’s Care practice with her addition to the team.”
Shepherd now sees patients at Carolina Pines Medical Group’s Women’s Care practice located at 701 Medical Park Drive, Suite 304 in Hartsville. Patients can schedule an appointment with her by calling 843.383.2764.
